Long overdue release [CH.IMB.019] from Brissy underground rock veteran/s GRAVEL SAMWIDGE [leader Spinks + co./ rotational members, often in recent years featuring a number of talented up-and-coming local punk/rock kids who play in some great bands circulating the scene.] is a re-issue of an overlooked classic entitled 'Home Brand' [6 track ep/or super short lp?] released in digital-only format originally on net label Neumusak a few years back, and features downer anthems like "Hole In My Head" and "Sunday". GS early roots are in Sydney, forming around the time of the short lived oz proto-grunge era [late 80s/early 90s. lubricated goat, bloodloss, GOD, etc.] & played with a number of now legendary names.. unfortunately time got away from 'em, and the 90s soon became the 2000s .. i'm not a biographer, i don't know the full details across the band's lifespan, such as the rather extensive gap - the 90s?! -if they had broken up then..?/ or what years they were based in melbourne?/ & don't really want to comment on drug habits......... BUT anyway they resurface around the end of the [00s] decade and have been playing and releasing stuff semi-regularly over the past 10 years and more recently [Spinks] forming another promising band with his wife, the 2 Chevrons.
Some previous GS output includes 'Medical Requirements' 12" EP on Swashbuckling Hobo, 'Trough' tape on Long Gone Records, 'S/T' CDr on Breakdance the Dawn, 'Nonchalance' CD on Turkeyneck Records, 'The Old Tape' on Ern Malley Records amongst others!
