After many attempts to write a brief statement to accurately describe this latest offering from the Aus/globally renowned Sky Needle-r/Brisbanite sound artist Ross Manning ... i decided my words couldn't really begin to sum it up particularly accurately or do it justice! and thought best left to listeners to hear for themselves ... so i suggest doing that, or read a little bit of my rambling...
'Smooth orb on milky halo' is a 4 track EP, in CDR format & follow up from the quickly snapped up 1st chem imbal release by R.M. entitled 'Both Sides of the Cocoon' EP, on cassette, back in late 2017.. now go absorb these strange & wonderful sounds! ... a rather magical concoction - forcing one to play "guess that sound?" containing percussive elements of pots n pans clattering & other similar noises, hypnotic/trance-like drawn out moments of near-silence or "lowercase ambient" atmosphere, strumming of an out of tune/broken guitar, found sound, field recordings, plenty of tape hiss popping in 'n out of left + right speaker, random objects, background noise, home-made contraptions, all bits pieced together beautifully, but kept unpolished & super lo-fi ..to stick to his DIY ethos, perhaps..? Perfect for the chemical imbalance. "aesthetic/sound" =]
